My promise

What’s going on in the little paddock at the corner of what once was the start of Strawbridge Lane, where it meets Claremont Place, Hatherleigh?

On the Land Registry, the address is recorded as ‘The Land at Fishleigh Cross’.

You may have walked past the farm gate and the sight of a tipi has caused you to slow down for a moment to ponder what sort of adventure might be unfolding here. Well, this is the place to find out.

With only a verbal agreement on a monthly rental it soon crossed my mind that any substantial projects might be short lived if the land owner decided not to rent it out long term. So, I asked if they would consider selling it to me. We struck a deal on that phone call and took ownership in less than a couple of weeks. We had a wonderful summer that year and really enjoyed the space and sense of even more freedom that ownership allows.

Life happened.

Now retired, I’ve at last been able to return to Hatherleigh and to enjoy my little paddock. While I’ve been away nature has taken care of the land, flora and fauna, even if the fencing has been neglected. My aim is now to learn all I can about the land here and working with nature, applying the principles of permaculture, to grow enough food to sustain myself and share with others.

This site is where you can follow my story of The Land at Fishleigh Cross Permaculture Project where I’ll be growing food to share. I have lots of interests and will write about them in my blog on this site – check out the topics in the menu somewhere on this page. You can find out more about my tipis and tipi-living, living in and working from my motorhome and maybe we can even share ideas around designing the lives we want to live and living our best stories.
